I have just finished up working on the Harris URC-94 that I picked up in Dayton this year and am left with a couple questions. First, why is the receiver so wide in the AM mode? LSB, USB and CW modes all have good filter response and work well but the AM receiver is as broad as a barn door. Is it possible that this was because they assume that AM would be primitive and very rarely used and when netting with old legacy AM system frequency tolerance would be poor so let design the AM stages wide? Second, why dose this radio weigh so much? Can contractors charge more for heavier radios?
It’s not a bad radio for SSB, 100 watts and all that but they did use way too many of tantalum capacitors and that was its biggest problem. Lot like using my Sunair GSB-800 (URC-92) but the Harris includes tactical VHF FM also just that it’s on the verge of being too heavy to move yourself.
Thanks for your help, turned out the 12 volt power supply was allright, just had a couple shorted bypass caps out in the radio itselfe.
