Not so surprising.
There is a piece that comes around every so often about why the Space
Shuttle is linked to Roman Charriots.
The 48 Volts behind 600 Ohms, and 90 VAC 20 Hz for ring for POTS lines
goes back to probably 1900-1920.
Standards last, thank goodness.
