I think you would have to ask the British about that.  The ones on the
SCR-522 were made by Amphenol to a Bendix drawing.  The Philco cable
assembly manual merely calls them "British-Type Multi-pin". The green
books mention the tremendous push to "second source" a VHF capability 
in
case Hitler invaded the British Isles, and that presumably is the 
reason
for using the British style connectors - for interchangeability with
British produced units.

I can only speculate that it was intended to be a dual-country use 
like
the SCR-522.  I have no other basis for knowing.
