or Thanks for all the replies providing the use and time of use of the
Navy Code. As a matter of interest, I have a modem suitably modified for
use over dial up land lines and regularly practice American Morse with a
friend 30 miles away. Also, the Morse Telegraph Club maintains two 1-800
hubs whereby or ex railroad telegraphers can converse with their fingers
by accessing these numbers. There is also an internet hub called Morse
KOB and several practice channels of American code are available at
various speeds as well as channels for personal communications. Not
every one's cup of tea but great fun.
lAs a regular volunteer at the Cold War Museum - The underground
Diefenbunker near Ottawa, we frequently get families with kids visiting
the radio room and it takes very little encouragement to have the kids
grab a Morse key and learn to send their name. They eat it right up.
Morse may be dead with the commercials but its a tradition that has a
lot of life yet.
