In my experience you don't need a blue blade.  All the foxhole radios I 
made as a kid were based on the article below, and worked just fine 
(i.e. picked up the one local radio station) with the pencil lead and a 
regular razor blade:

I'd bet most any kind of oxidized metal surface would work as a 
detector..  Just ask any ham who's fought a tough TVI problem caused by 
unwanted rectification.
