Actually a bit longer than 50s. They were used by the reg force, militia 
and cadet forces. The reg force switched in mid-late 50s, the militia in 
the 60s and the cadets in the early 70s. Interesting though is there are 
photos of the cadets using them in late 40s-early 50s. The old Dept. of 
Communications authorized the use of the WS19 by civilians for civil 
defense use during the Cold War. The one stipulation was that they had 
to be modified for xtal control.
