[Milsurplus] TBX generator - trouble

I’m glad Ray and Rob brought up the subject of the hand cranked
generator (TBX-8) because I have one on my work bench that I’m trying to
fix. The trouble first showed up at a demo I was doing. The problem
exists with the generator completely disconnected from the radio. When
you start to crank, the 12 and 500+ volts quickly go up to there normal
level but after a few seconds, the generator gets hard to crank for a
second, then gets very easy to turn and the voltages fall off to approx
150 for the high voltage and 3 volts for the filament. The more often
you repeat the test, the quicker it fails. I’ve lifted a few of the
filter caps to see if there are failing (C501, 503, 504 and C505) and no
change. I haven’t lifted the others yet as they are going to be harder
to get at. But before I do, am I barking up the wrong tree or is this a
problem with LV brushes or the voltage regulator??
Tnx + 73
