Think a lot of the FM sets from the fifties don't get much love because although they were the panicle of vacuum tube technology they unfortunately were rapidly replaced by solid state sets that required less power, were lighter and more reliable. Also when looking at things like the GRC-7 or 10 all those radios were way wide band, don't know if that was so they would still net with the WW2 stuff like the BC-1000, BC-603/604 or VRC-3 or because there tuning was so wide and by having high deviation you did not have to be right on channel. Interesting thing is that the GRC-19 is a all tube system, except the last produced or overhauled systems that had the solid state inverters for the transmitter and the little solid state replacement for the final audio so that puts in the same class as the older GRC FM stuff but you don't see anyone scraping or giving away T-195 transmitters or R-392 receivers. Anyone know when the AN/GRC-19 first appeared? Or when it was withdrawn from service? Would assume the AN/GRC-106 is what replaced it.
