Hi,
I recently disassembled for salvage one old boat anchor frequency
counter FR-114A/U. The unit worked perfectly. It's big and heavy and was
full of tubes - I counted 51 tubes. For all that it tops out at around 1
MC! In the past I used it to set adjustable tone card for PL and other
applications. It got a whole lot easier when I bought and built some
programmable tone cards and used those with an X-Y scope to set the
adjustable tone boards. I offered the machine on some of these same
lists several times. There was some interest but shipping costs scared
*everybody*. For practical purposes it was not usable..only good for a
"museum display".
I did recently fire it up and it still works as it always did. I have
stripped out a lot of parts to keep. I do have some sub-assemblies I am
offering on my usual lists. I am not going to dangle the eBay specter
over anybody's heads..I am not going to offer them on the bay. I will
keep and use at least some of the sub-assemblies or their parts. I'll
have in mind using the Nixie board to display the output from a more
capable solid state counter/dial.
I have a circuit board assembly with six socketed Burroughs Nixie 6844A
numeric display tubes with the complete wire harnesses used in the
FR-114A/U. I have six decade counter assemblies that were used to do
some of the work counting the input frequency and driving the Nixie
tubes. Five of the sub-assemblies are labeled CP-468/U (100KC) and one
is labeled CP-467/U (1 MC). I looked online (not on eBay) and found
surplus dealers selling the Nixie tubes alone, used, for $22. The 100 KC
divider assemblies that include the divider tube but not the pair of
dual triode tubes were $25. Moreover those parts were all sold out. The
Nixie boards with sockets and no cable or current limiting resistors
(and no tubes) was $50 for a five tube version.
Now I am not a retailer and I don't necessarily expect to get the same
money those guys got for theirs. These parts are going to be hard to
find or even harder to find the counters. I have often sent vacuum tubes
and some parts to other hams for just the postage and sometimes not even
that much. I think I should get something of value, if not cash, for
these parts. I am currently interested in "hearing aid" or "proximity
fuse" subminiature tubes. I am interested in trades for other ham radio
items or parts. I am interested in mil-surplus ARC-5 command set radios,
hacked or not, except I'm all set for the low frequency receivers. I am
going to prefer people who want the parts to keep their own equipment
running ahead of others who want the parts for making something like
clocks. If you are interested in any of these please email me in
private. I am sending this message to several appropriate lists and
maybe to QRZ (if I can do that).

Bill KU8H
