Hi Guys,
All this talk about using the "Gibson Girl" and its accessories is very
interesting. I have a G/G with the canvas straps but it stays high on the
shelf since its front panel is quite radioactive and the radium paint is
completely unprotected. A very different situation than with the radium
paint on the faces of the R-390A and R-392 meters where the glass protects
us from any paint dust or flakes. Some models of the TBX are the same as
the G/G and I recently sold my radioactive TBX but kept the "cool" one.
The grease in the gear box of mine is stiff enough that it can't be cranked
but it'll just have to stay that way.
Not that breathing or swallowing the radium paint would lead to certain
death but just that it's best to minimize ingestion of such active sources.
For people signalling for rescue the radiation was the least of their
worries but for us things are different...
