[Milsurplus] TRC-8

At one time I'd thought of getting a TRC-8 receiver and using it, maybe with
an upconverter,
since the rec specs are similar to commercial FM 88-108 band equipment, to
listen to
FM broadcasting. Altho some conversion articles way back discussed its use
on 220, the
specs are really too WBFM to be much practical for this. I resisted this
impulse and now
I'm at the point where I do not want additional projects.
I had never seen the xmtr part until I saw 3 of them at an estate sale in
Vancouver WA
early 2000's. I'd long thought the xmtr looked pretty cool with its big VFO
dial. But those
3 did not, for some unknown reason, have the outer housing. I saw the same
sets later
at a Rickreall hamfest - of course no one would buy such a thing - few
indeed are the folk
with even a clue what the units were - so I would guess they went back to
the source of
all metal, as their next destination.
I looked at the referenced museum link, but did not see the TRC-8 photo.
