OR you could use 3B28 xenon rectifiers. They were used in place of 866s 
as a direct replacement, and there are no mercury splatter issues. They 
can be operated on their side if needed. They were used in the GRT-3 and 
GRC-27 from the late 40s, so they might not be out of place, especially 
if the ship saw service in the early 50s.
