Good luck on finding one, most were converted to ARC-38A and the SSB conversion was not a good thing. The control head is the same although the 38A has a different stick on label for SSB and a small wiring change for AVC, the PA, IF Driver audio, relay deck and servos are all the same between the 38 and 38A although all the parts for the 38A are stenciled "modified for SSB" but the SMO, reference, modulator and receiver IF are way different in the 38A then the 38 and the frame is a little different between the 38 and 38A. The 618S1 is somewhat similar being AM and CW but has a 144 channel crystal deck instead of the SMO assembly. All the other parts like the PA, receiver IF, slug rack, modulator, relays and servos are the same but the frame although it looks the same is wired different. I have all three of the radios. The first was the 618S1 that I used with a PTO assembly to QSY that was replaced by a ARC-38 that I currently have on the air and a 38A that's been a parts donor for the other two. Subject: [Milsurplus] WTB: AN/ARC-38 transceiver

Hi,
I'm looking for an ARC-38 aircraft transceiver, preferably the RT-311
(AM/CW only). Anybody got one of these surplus to your needs? I
could probably come and pick it up in OR/WA/Nor. Cal.

Thanks and 73,
Robert
