Have some fun with 'em. Ask for a shot of the set, something simple.
Then ask for an inside shot of the bottom, something specific etc,
with a tape measure or coin included for reference. Weeds out the
posers pretty fast while still preserving any opportunity for the real
thing. I've gotten a lot of responses over the years like you mention
Dave, but now and then it's the real deal with someone who just can't
type worth a damn. No guarantees, as I've had people offer to sell me
actual gear only to peddle it to someone else for a few dollars more
after the deal was supposedly done.

Expanded /detailed headers help a lot, too.
