*sigh* ... a freakin' voice of reason at last!

One can expand that to just about everything that showed up on the postwar
surplus market, including spare parts. A large number of hams were getting
back on the air and saw surplus as a path to do so using much better
equipment than they'd had prior to the war so snapped it up and made it do
what they needed it to as opposed to what the military needed. While the
technology existed in the mid to late 30s to make crystal filter SSB rigs,
it wasn't until after the war when crystals were available for cheap that
filter type SSB became viable for amateur experimentation along with phasing
type. These same crystals wound up in receivers to make them more amenable
to both SSB and CW which was a boon to me in the early 60s when I was
producing those filters for local sale.

At least two were in use at farms where I grew up. The tubs had been
stripped down so the only thing left was the pan and the front seats. These
weren't the postwar Willis farm vehicles but war surplus Jeeps that had been
converted to their needs. So let's shoot the farmers for destroying
perfectly good Jeeps in order to make them into something they needed.

Pretty much although, oddly enough, the subject of using FETs in place of
tubes was discussed without flames as well. Isn't that ironic.
