    Well put and I'm sure your comments harmonize with  most of us who love 
to putter with the old stuff, yet recognize the utility this  old stuff 
offers us who still like to build stuff and make use of the nifty  parts in 
these gadgets.  The LMs are especially attractive containers for  all kinds of 
variable RF things.  The front panel layout of the LM and BC  221 alone can 
inspire one to build all kinds of things without doing much if any  metal 
work.  And of course those wonderful caps and gears will never lose  their 
usefulness no matter how much the state of the art diminishes the need for  L/C 
oscillators.
