[Milsurplus] How I Use an LM

I find it to be an essential accessory to CW operations with my TBX, when
trying to work people with modern, selective receivers.  Not so much a
problem when working other old military radios, but if you call someone
using a modern radio with a 500 cycle CW filter, you have to be right on
frequency.

The TBX receiver pulls like mad when exposed to the transmitter's strong
signal, so netting the TX to the RX within 500 cycles is near impossible.

However,you can beat the LM to the station you want to work, then tune the
transmitter while listening to the beat in the LM headphone, and bang, you
are dead on.

You don't need the book to do this.  I have, however, noted the settings for
OMRN and a few other nets on my LM so I can pre-tune to the nets.

I have also mentioned before how I used the LM as a BFO in an ARC-1, just by
coupling it loosely to the IF side of the mixer.  This allowed me to hear CW
beacons on the ARC-1.
