Dave, I suspect other old timey transmitters will operate way below their 
spec'd voltages.
I bought an ATD many years back; the fellow who sold it told me had had 
determined it
worked by applying a B+ of 100 volts. Normal B+ on the final is 1000.   I 
also recall
reading, in a UK QRP magazine I think, about someone who was running a 
T-1154 in
QRP mode at about 5 watts.
And by the way, what about transformer prices these days? I suppose it's 
because
I was price-programmed during the spell this stuff was at its nadir of 
value.
