Just to put in my 2 cents worth.

 

I assume you guys remember that in the early 1960s the folks at Harrison
brought out a whole line of tubes for auto radios that were intended to
operate with 12 volts on the plates.

 

That - along with the nuvistor - was about the last effort to stop the great
tidal wave of silicon.
