Some of us are missing the point about lower voltage operation.  You 
can look at  tube characteristics curves all day long and reach the 
same conclusion.  It is obvious that the equipment is not going to 
perform to  exact published specifications, however the  equipment is 
under less voltage stress and will last longer without extensive 
replacement of caps etc and will perform well enough for amateur use. 
The equipment is not for a "space probe" - - -it is for use in a hobby 
environment and the idea is to preserve, use, and demonstrate  the 
equipment.
It amazes  me  that you can take a 70 year old receiver, power it up 
using lower voltages and it works immediately.
