There were quite a few sets built from late 1945 until the late 50's
using low voltage on the tube plates. Most of these were to be located
in the unpressurized portions of aircraft where high voltages caused arc
overs. I can think of at least two marker beacon receivers, the ARN-6
automatic direction finder, the BC-1206 LF receiver, and some others I
have not seen yet. There are also the R-392 and R-808 HF receivers, and
many auto radios from the late 50s to early 60s, although the R-808 and
auto radios had solid state audio output stages and the R-392 had a
conversion.
