This reminded me that I have the hulk of one of these, and I went
out to the garage to shed a tear over it tonight. This is an intact
case containing a remarkable conversion.
A panel has been fabricated (nicely done job) in place of the original
panel, the edges of which can still be seen. As far as I can tell all
the original controls are present, although the receiver has been cut
out and remounted - in the process acquiring 6v tubes(!) - and the
transmitter replaced with something taking a 7-pin miniature and an
octal PA (I suspect a 6146). One of the original meters is in place,
and the hole is present to mount the other, which is clearly intended
to monitor plate current in the conversion.
I can never quite decide whether to remove the guts and find a home
for the case, or to complete the intended conversion. Then it all seems
so sad that I put it away until the next SRC-288 article or eBay sale
(one completed recently) reminds me of it.
