All: I'd have to agree with Mark; so does Wikipedia, for that matter.

SINCGARS is not anything like the legacy wideband (+/- 15 kHz) FM radio
systems we have all known and loved.  It has taken the place of the PRC-77
and the VRC-12, among other things.  The URC-94 I have has the same
frequency range in it, but also has 1.6-30 MHz as well, so it's more of a
distant cousin.

I'm not aware of fielded SINCGARS family radios older than the RT-1439, from
the very late 1980s. I'm curious about the earlier history of the family.
