Nice photo. I had not seen that one before. As I understand it, the 
SCR-194 was ordered by the Artillery so they could talk to the 
spotters. Since it is quite noisy in the area of the artillery, they 
went with the headset.

The Infantry had not originally ordered anything like this, but upon 
seeing it, they ordered a similar set, which was nomenclatured 
SCR-195. I have always assumed that the delay between these orders 
was responsible for the RT unit being designated as BC-322 instead of 
BC-223, as BC-223 had already been assigned.

Has anyone out there ever seen a real BC-222 headset? Years ago, I 
made a replica by having a local machinist make a metal attachment 
device to grab the R-14 earpieces similarly to how it was done on the 
TBY headset. The over the head strap is around, but the chin strap is 
a mystery. I did the best I could with modern materials for that part 
of the replica.
