That $3006 bid was mine, so I guess I'm the winning loser. Or the losing winner? I didn't expect it to meet reserve, and the seller's terms didn't look very friendly for a guy on the opposite side of the continent to buy the beast without showing up in person, but I threw on the bid just for the heck of it. I'd love to have the shelter and put it back on the air, but $8500, plus freight, plus dealing with loading by remote control with no help from the seller, is just too expensive for me right now. :(

I do have a weakness for commo shelters complete with the original radio sets inside! I managed to buy a nearly complete AN/GRC-122B from a friend a number of years ago, and it's currently bolted on the back of my HMMWV (which I also had to do a lot of work on to convert it from a cargo truck to a shelter carrier). When I saw this MRT-9 set on eBay, I really started drooling. It's too bad I can't get my hands on it, because I'd keep it intact and put it on the air. I hope it doesn't end up being parted out.

P.S.: I'm single, so my whole property is 100% man-cave! :)
