John:

J Joint
A Army
N Navy

C
R
C RCA

6 6 volts
S Shielded design octal
K Serial letter Random assigned
7 Number of active elements
Y Micanol base
Absence of G, GT indicates metal envelope
 W here means ruggedized
A, B, etc. here are design improvements, usually backward but not always forward compatible.

Robert has the complete manufacturer list. And it is in many TMs, as well as somewhere on the Internet, but I haven't looked at it lately, so I don't have a URL.

The other information is in the old RCA, GE, etc. tube manuals

Subject: [Milsurplus] Tube Nomenclature Questions

Hi,

I'm somewhat ignorant about tube nomenclature. Consider:

JAN CRC 6SK7Y

Is the CRC the Navy Manufacturer's code? Does anybody have a table of the
common ones?

Also, is there some reference for the suffix letters ( I know what GT and
G mean, but what about the other possible letters)

Thanks,

-John
