Dayton Field Report: D -1, Thursday. Anyone who’s been on the list for a while now knows that I always post something about what going on at the Dayton Hamvention. This years a little different being I decided park my truck at the Hamvention and have a second vehicle for traveling to and from the other sites. This morning we took the truck over to the Hamvention and parked it in the designated space. This was around nine in the morning, their were around fifty to a hundred vehicles in the lot at that time. The plan was to travel over to Midwest Electronic Surplus, have lunch on the road and spend the rest of the day at Fair Radio. Did make it to Midwest and bought several parts for ongoing projects and then headed up I-75 to Lima about sixty miles away. Ten miles outside of Lima got a call from the Hamvention that I had to move the truck, it was over the line and making it impossible for some vendor to set up his tent, so had to turn around and drive back to Dayton to move the truck, no trip to Fair this year, no opportunity to buy the nine pin Cannon connector I need and no way to look at everything in there yard. Got back to the hamvention just after two and was surprised to see how many were their. The Hamvention dose not start until tomorrow and general admission is not allowed in until ten or eleven that morning but the site had maybe two or three hundred sellers and all the hard core Military collectors and dealers were already there. Dennis Starks tent, trailer and ambulance appears to be the central point of all activity, Joe Munson (WA4VAG) and at least a dozen other of the hard core collectors were there. Maybe there is something to showing up on Thursday although did not see anyone buying anything. Will be posting more tomorrow.
