I have operated two of these receivers . I found them very good radios. The
model 92 is not designed to be operated in the same manner as a ham
receiver.
The operation of the model 92 would typically be as follows:
Company headquaters would know they were to receive a message containing
information and commands at a specific time, say 1400hrs. The operating crew
would have all day to set up the receiver. I am shure the radio operaters
were not permited to the just play with the receivers, Japanese miltitary
displine being what it was.
Thus a quick tuning American receiver would be of no use.
The receiver design was unusall, in that it had two sections, whick I will
call section A and section B
Section A was a regenerative receiver covering 20kc to about 2mcs. Going by
memory, it had two type 78 rf stages, a 77 detector and a 38 audio output.
This was important and will be discussed below.
Section B was a super-hetrodyne covering about 1.5mcs to 20mcs. A 6A7
converter was used with one or two 78s as RF stages.
Section A was used as the IF amplifier. Section A would be tuned to a
different frequency for each high frequency band tuned by
Section B Thus the IF frequency veryed according to what band Section B was
tuning.
This was a similar design as used by the USN's RAA and RAB receivers.
The model 92 was set up to operate with different power supplies. In one
type power supply, the filaments were placed in series, hence the 38 audio
output tube. With a second type of power supply, the filaments were switched
to parallel operation.
A very versatile receiver. In operating it, I noticed very good senstivity.
The selectivity was poor because, the regenative receiver used as the IF
amplfier had single tuned circuits, not double tuned circuits as used in
most super-heats.
The tuning condensers, were copys of General Radio varible caps.
Sorry just had to stand up for this receiver.

O yes, one list member has two of these receivers(not me) , and might let
one go for enough money.
