It appears that the AN/APW-11 beacon system was installed also on some
Italian Airforce F-84's.
I was told that it was for release, under remote control, of tactical
nuclear weapons.
in fact, in the fifties some Italian airplanes were armed with nuclear bombs
owned and controlled by US (or NATO: I'm not sure).
