Once again, thanksa so much for all the info.  As a point of clarification, my home brew power supply system has a main circuit breaker for mains power to all three power modules (27vdc, 400vdc, and 1200vdc).  Then each supply has its own power switch so I can bring up filaments and manually apply high voltage at the appropriate time.
 
I will definitely ring out the plate metering circuit to make sure that the shunt resistor/meter ends up correctly configured.
 
Thanks for the lighnt bulb idea.  I used to use a 60 watt bulb to tune up my DX-35.
 
I am on travel in DC until Saturday.  As soon as I get back, I'll give an update.
