Dave,
Somewhere along the line the USPS added a larger flat rate box,
12 x 12 x 8 inches, but that size is no longer a flat rate box, but is
available as a regular Priority Mail box. When it was a flat rate
box, for some reason, I am thinking it might have been for the APO/FPO
destination market only. I think I still have one of these boxes
in the used box pile and will verify later today, unless old age hits me
and I forget.
OK, well old age almost got me tonight, and I just remembered to check.
Yes, the USPS did have the 12x12x8 boxes as an APO/FPO Flat Rate Box,
for APO/FPO addresses use only.
The particular box that I have was mailed on November 20, 2009, so it wasn't
that long ago. Postage to an APO address was $11.50.
I just noticed something unusual about the box. It was mailed by Causekeepers, Inc.
of Ramseur, NC. The box looks like the typical 12x12x8 Priority Mail box and has
the printing APO/FPO, as noted above. What is a bit different is that on the top and
two of the sides are:
Soldiers' Angels
a one color version of the Solders' Angels logo
www.soldiersangels.org(http://www.soldiersangels.org/)
CauseKeepers
I have no way of telling if this is added after the fact or part of the USPS box
priniting process.
