[Milsurplus] late 20th century connectors

OK, now that I have both chipped the pot metal and shed blood, it is time to apply brains to what I thought was a no-brainer.

This is what I get for messing around with stuff out of my time period.

Attempting to re-wire the power cord for R-442/VRC, I have removed the rings from both top and bottom of the plug that goes to the radio, but I can't get any of the guts to budge.

What do I do?
