I need some help.
A Gentleman has a set of APS-3 radar gear that is a bit rough and there are
several duplicate components. We need this equipment for our 1945 Lockheed
Harpoon project. He would like to sell the set but said he wanted $5000 for
it. I don't think it is worth near that based on recent purchases of similar
gear in great shape. I also offered to provide a donation letter for tax
reasons as our group has received our 501c3 nonprofit status. For a donation
we would need a certified appraiser. Does anyone know of an appraiser who
might know old military radio gear?
Any thoughts on how much a rough but near complete (no shock mounts, a few
connectors, some parts missing from components) set of radar may be worth so
I can give him a reasonable offer?
With his components and what we already have I believe that we will have a
complete set that should be operational which, to me is the center piece of
our flying PV-2D Harpoon.
Here is a thread about our project on a forum called Warbird Information
Exchange:

Should you have any APS-3, APA-16 or ARC-5 gear that might be spare to your
needs please think of us. We will put all of the equipment back inside her
and it is our goal to make it all operational. We will fly her to air shows
around the country to help tell the story about the little known history of
the ground and flight crews who maintained and flew the Lockheed PV-1 and
PV-2 throughout the war. The use of the APS-3 in these aircraft seems to me
to have been a significant contribution to the war effort and what better
tribute to those who designed, built, used and maintained this equipment
than to have it keep flying and working.
Thanks in advance for your help,
