In regard to getting Radio 5 back on line (first page of the
referenced report), the SRT-16 configuration is made up of a pair of
SRT-14 transmitters and a "Booster" unit containing a high voltage
power supply and a high power AM modulator which allows one or the
other SRT-14 to operate at the 500 watt level. These three cabinets
may be arranged in several ways, one of which is with one of the
SRT-14s on top of the booster unit in which case a single fan/heater
module under the booster provides temperature control for both
units. I had an SRT-14 and can't imagine getting one of these
transmitters operating after immersion in salt water without a major
overhaul so this must have been the configuration on the Manley. The
booster and fan unit got flooded but the high mounted SRT-14 was
spared a soaking. So, they didn't really get the "SRT-16" back in
operation, they got one of the SRT-14s back on line at it's 100 watt
stand-alone level. Lucky break in any case.
