Alignment is almost never the answer, unless someone has attempted to change or align it improperly. Myself I would look for problem first then think about alignment after. If alignment has changed that much may be a issue of component change over time.
Interesting thing about Russian military sets, many have the IF and RF coils sealed with metal plates soldered over the cans. Do not know if this is to keep techs from misaligning or keep out moisture.
