I remember you sticking up for me one time on the R-390 list John,
when someone there was griping about the black paneled set I was
selling on ebay (even though I put a full disclaimer in there about
the previous owner's panel repaint, no hype, etc). In that case, it
was an assumption on their part, not my description that caused the
dust up.
My guess in this situation is that it's more a reaction to his
candy-coated selling hype than his work or price he asks. Most folks
here are free market capitalist pigs like me from what I can tell. (o:
More a case of 'be clear, be honest' and that sort of approach. When
you need to flower things up to sell them, it raises those Crazy
Eddy/shifty saleman red flags. Anyone who falls for the 'just imagine'
type stories and has the money to buy something based on them,
well....it's still a (mostly) free country, as they say.
Ray's description of the NSA gear used in the recent past is spot on.
It's been decades since they used R-390s of any type, and the last
ones to leave all had stock gray panels.
Come to think of it, you actually do have an ex-NSA set there, whether
you know it or not. The one you contacted George about. Don't be
fooled by the cover story. George referred to me as Todd Roberts in
the ER article just to throw them off. *wink*wink*
