[Milsurplus] polished bare metal panel R 390s on eBay

The TV show Pimp My Ride comes to mind. Too bad there wasn't a wider public interest in boat anchor restorations and mods. Can you imagine a TV show along the lines of West Coast Choppers?

Have there been any chrome plated 390 panels? Powder coated? Cammo? Wild colors? 

How about a shaft encoder, some decoder driver chips and a front panel mini nixie tube freq readout? Would there be room for that if you removed the Veeder Root machinery and milled out a larger window?

These car and bike guys are just more committed than we are. I see car and motorcycle themed tatoos all the time but have yet to see an R 390 tatt or even a Collins logo.

It would be fun to have a computer graphics R 390 "skin" for an SDR. It's far beyond my capability though. 


Having swore off back breakers and wrist wreckers years ago, I find myself once again in possession of a broken but restorable R 390A and a similarly afflicted Viking II. Things seem to go in circles.
