Jim,
No, not normal as others have said. I've run my -73 for over an hour
at a time with no solenoid problems. The PE-73 does have a full-load
duty cycle limitation. Don't remember just what the percentages are
but nothing close to what normal ham use would put on it. Sounds like
a bad solenoid to me. Shouldn't be too hard to find a suitable
substitute unless you insist on an original equipment replacement.
Sorry we didn't hear you last night. Band was short....... :^(
