Hi Andy.  
I recommend going with the SCR-274N.   
Some people have this idea that the AN/ARC-5 
is "better."  Nonsense!  274N does the same job 
as the ARC-5 for less money and less stuff to break.
The AN/ARC-5 comes in too many different "flavors" 
and combinations, plus pieces are harder to find 
and will cost you more.
The 274N is a good, simple workhorse radio.
One- and Two-Transmitter racks are common.
Three- and Four- TX racks for either set are
quite scarce.  I know of only a couple of the 
3-TX racks. 
You could look from now on for an ARC-5 
C-29 control box; one shows-up in Ebay about
every 2 years.  But BC-451s for the 274N
come along regularly- several every year.
The connectors for ARC-5 are much harder 
to acquire as well.  
You could also go ATA/ARA if you're a
"Navy" kinda guy ;-)
