There are several Navy documents available on line with communications plans for specific invasions with equipment used etc.  Leyte is one of them.

You guys with more time than I do can look them up.  Hyperwar is one site.  HNSA another that might have some.

I have witnessed first hand the suitability of the TBX for passing messages to ships offshore during an invasion.  When LST-325 did their east coast tour  and passed through Buzzards Bay, I had my TBX set up on shore.  I was running it in stock condition with original antenna.  Perry, aboard LST-325 was running their TCS with a 32-foot whip, again a standard Navy installation.  At 30 miles, well past the range of 16" guns, his signal was loud and clear, and he copied me fine.  Had he been aboard NEW JERSEY, I could have directed his fire on my sister-in-law's house with no difficulty at all.
