Don't know how you feel about the military or how old you are but here's my pitch based on my actual experience. I started out as a high school dropout. I had almost NO options as you can surmise. I did not want to join the Army but realized it was my best option at the time. After basic traing, which was nothing to really worry about, I was sent to AIT, schooling. All the while receiving a paycheck from day one. Got my GED while I was going through boot camp. Long story short. Stayed in for 20+ years. Retired as an E-8, MSG. With a Top Secret security clearance. That opened a lot of doors after the military. Worked as a contractor with the State Dept and the Justice Dept doing what I love. The Army has several ongoing education/management courses as your career progresses and as active duty you can take ANY school the Army has by correspondence. CAVEAT: I have been retired for almost 20 years so it is quite possible some things have changed, but you get the idea. The Army has raised its enlistment age to 42 years old btw. Now that is old to be a Private but anything is possible lol. The Navy has probably better schools. Their nuclear problem is incredible. Those grads usually don't stay in past their first hitch because there is a great demand for them and the Navy can't compete financially. Last but not least, the new GI Bill is unbelievable. Don't have all the specs on it because it doesn't pertain to me anymore. Soooo see a recruiter, you could do worse! There are a bunch of other benifits too medical, dental, free gyms all for the family. Good luck whatever you do my friend.
