The 180L-3 is NOT the proper tuner for the AN/ARC-38.
The Collins commercial 180L-3 and the similar military CU-351/AR that is
appropriate for the AN/ARC-38 and -38A are NOT identical.
The CU-351/AR uses an Amphenol connector, similar to all the other Amphenols
that are used in the AN/ARC-38. Because of that, there is a small projecting
sub-panel around the connector because it requires more space behind the panel
than does the Cannon-type connectors used in the Collins commercial 180L-series
of antenna tuners. The functions assigned to a specific pin number/letter are
not the same either.
The 180L-3 can be kludged into an AN/ARC-38 system, but if you want to reproduce
an authentic military (USN) installation, then you want the CU-351/AR, not the
180L-3.
