I'm posting this here in the event that folks aren't aware of the
military transmitter category. Last year we had a number of surplus
rigs including a TCS set up, ART-13 and an old Federal shipboard
transmitter among others. Though scoring takes place with a very basic
points schedule, it's more intended as a 'get on the air and enjoy
yourself' event. With the large number of military AM transmitters out
there, it's an ideal opportunity to put them on the air and join in
the fun. For lower power stations with the flexibility to do so, 80
meters between 3705-3730 seems to be a great area to operate. I worked
a number of 25-100 watt stations there during the evening hours.
Those of you who took part last year will recall the buzz of activity
around the bands, primarily 160-40, despite an afternoon solar flare
that quieted conditions for a couple hours. This year as the higher HF
bands have begun to wake up, who knows? The sky is the limit, as they
say.
Hope to hear and work many of you -
