POPULAR SCIENCE for Jan. 1942 has some photos inside B-17. Seen is a
BC-224-A
and a TU for the BC-375. I cannot remember - is the BC-224-A also a 12DC
machine?
If so - the early B-17 was 12 volt system? BTW, the crew of 8 includes
"First Radio
Operator" and his "Assistant". Yes, ??? Perhaps the assistant's job was
to hand
the BC-375/ 191 tuning units to the First Radio Operator.
This makes me wonder if the total BC-224-A production was perhaps larger
than
I thought.
Also, that this magazine number, was probably being prepared in Dec. 1941,
perhaps even before Pearl Harbor. That is, before the real wartime B-17
config was decided on. I wonder if MacArthur's B-17s, destroyed in the
Philippines, had the BC-224-A onboard? -Hue Miller
