I have built many batteries packs for radios using just cheap nine volt transistor batteries and D cells for filaments. They last in my service for one to two years being that I only use the radios three or four times a year and never whine or produce interference. I have a DAV that I have been using for years at Dayton and have only had to change batteries once. As a alternative to solid state inverters the K4CHE web site has excellent pages on how to build batteries boxes for both the BC-611 http://k4che.com/BC-611%20Box.htm and the PRC-6 http://k4che.com/PRC-6%20Battery%20Box/PRC-6%20Battery%20Box.htm
