I agree with Dave,  a negative impression caused 
by rust in the back ground  will possible prevent 
a successful
sale of a very usable item. However if rust is 
actually present on the item then it should
always be shown and possible mentioned in the 
description of the item. On the other hand a lot
of collectors like to acquire older, rusty items 
and if possible items  with a musty smell - - - 
so the
rust back ground might be a good idea.
