Someone please QSP to the arc-5 group.
I think I've noticed that there are two schools of thought about
modifying or hacking pristine WWII radio equipment, such as
the one we're talking about here.
First, the people who are from that time, and visualized every
AF aircraft having had a full rack of radio equipment.
Cortland St was full swing.
Then, there's the later group, much younger, that see all that
equipment, when available, as being ancient as the Pyramids,
and should be protected.
Reverse engineering can be enlightening, and I don't know
where all that thin mica came from.
I understand that way back when the French occupied Egypt
they used the Sphinx for an artillery target.
I modified a SP-600 to replace the space used for a 6AL5,
and put a 6BE6 SSB product detector there. Neatly, of course.
