[Milsurplus] [ARC5] BC-455-B Modification

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to put a simple (solid state, outboard) 10 Meter
converter up front?

I find the CQ conversion book a source of good ideas, but do keep most of
the gear I received in original form, as close as possible to the originals
or in a
state where I can retro them.

I have a whole stack of articles on modifying older mil gear if anyone
should be interested.

I also still own the actual Command transmitter that was the basis
for a 10 meter mobile conversion article in CQ, also in the Conversion
manual.
Bought it and its associated plate modulator at Mike Kranz, Cortland Street
in
the early 60's He uses the original 4-5.3 MHz oscillator and multiplies up
to 28 MHz.
Output is about 30-40 Watts. I might add an NBFM attachment to it.
Was designed for mobile AM use and it chirps too much on 28 MHz for
CW work but the chirp is hardly noticeable at the fundamental - haven't
tried the myriad of methods of reducing the chirp since I don't use
10 Meters much, and use my Ten-Tech when I do.
