I had thought the TBX-8 arrived too late to actually be used. Maybe this
thought
was also supported by the number of new-condition ones I have seen. But I
recently viewed an -8 with painted marking " APA-37 ", which is Attack
Cargo ship Cavalier. I wasn't really aware such radios were carried for
possibly emergency or shore party use on such a range of vessels. Later
the TBX was supplanted by the GRC-9 for such use.
I also saw a rebuilt, apparently, set I think is a TBX-2 ( all I remember
of the contract number was something like C**-****5D ) where a
new plastic addition to then nameplate obscured the top part where
the TBX - model number appears. The equipment line on the tag said
only "A UNIT OF MODEL TBX".
