I am acquainted with them from the cold war net at Dayton each year. Someone always drags one or two out for the net but they often fail. Marty Reynolds had one that failed the first time out and I gave him no end to grief about it so the second year he brought it back and the radio worked very well. He always managed to bring out something unique, like his RT-70 in a shopping basket with assorted dry batteries so every time I see a BC-1000 think of him.

Hi,
I'm impressed that as many as half of the BC-1000s that Ray has seen worked. They are not an easy radio. If I recall correctly, I replaced 70+ paper caps and ended up with a receiver that worked from the mixer back, but never could get the mixer going. I was a little short on test equipment at the time.
You'll be the coolest guy on the block if you get it going, Roy.
Rob
